Lacquer miniatures rank as one of the most original and diverse handicrafts that developed in keeping with century old traditions. It takes around 6 months for the artist to make this lacquer casket. This box is made of paper-mâché which could be shaped into widely diverse forms. It is painted with tempera (pigment) painting and golden powder. This box is lacquered about 8-10 times.
Since the ancient times, people in Russia believed that there always would be happiness in their house if Domovoy settled in their house. Domovoy is a tiny fairytale character. He is a good old man who settles in houses and helps and protects the household and its inhabitants from evil and bad luck. But he doesn’t come into each house, only into those, where good, love, peace and agreement reign over.
