Matryoshka doll
Price $184
(Height) The tallest Matryoshka -22.0 cm.
    The shortest – 3.0 cm
This set of Matryoshka dolls is completely handmade and unique. Each single doll is made of natural wood (linden tree). They are all mostly painted with tempera and richly decorated with golden leaf. The dolls are usually covered with 4-6 layers of lacquer.
This Matryoshka is very unusual: where as most sets represent a single story, each piece (there are seven in total) from this set tells the tale of a different story. Pictured on each piece is a scene from a famous Russian fairy-tale, namely: “The Frog Princess” and “Sister Alyonushka and Brother Ivanushka”. There are also two fairy tales written by the Great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin -"The Golden Cockerel", and "Tsar Sultan". The last one is drawn on the biggest Matryoshka doll.
When Tsarevich, named Gvidon, went hunting he heard a screech, and saw a poor swan struggling against a huge black hawk near the sea. Just as the hawk was about to bury its beak in the swan's neck, the youth shot an arrow, killing the hawk. The white swan swam up to the lad, thanked him and said, "you didn't kill a hawk at all, but a wicked wizard. For saving my life, I will serve you forever".
