This memorable matryoshka has 5 unforgettable images of Saint Petersburg. It is drawn in luscious, bright colors and decorated by a tremendous amount of Susal. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is depicted on the first one.
The monument of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood was built and christened in 1907. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is very symbolic for Saint Petersburg and all of Russia. It was the first temple, established on the spot where the sovereign governor Alexander II was deadly injured, as were many other victims of the upcoming revolution. The cathedral takes your breath away with its splendor and tremendous amount of decorations (figured and engraved moldings, diadem-shaped tiaras, belts and colored glazed tile). Five domes of the temple are covered with jewelry enamel (1 000 sq. meters). Its belfry is decorated with mosaic coats of arms of municipal and provincial regions of the Russian Empire. This is the sole orthodox cathedral, where mosaic decoration composes 7065 sq. meters - one of the largest mosaic collections in Europe. Such decor techniques used for the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood became a brand new trend in the development of monumental mosaic art. Ornaments of the temple harmoniously turn into mosaic icons and iconostasis, smoothly matching, blending in and patterning within its marble floors and walls. They reveal a very rare, hard to find beauty and unforgettable spectacle.
